Meet Marva

I am Marva. I am a mother, a woman of faith, a sister, a wife, a daughter, and an educator. I have been designing flowers since 2011. I believe flowers have the power to change the mood of a person as much as they do a space or a situation. I see your florals as the color in dull moments and the timeless centerpieces of your wedding and events. They are the hallmark of many of your photos that will live on for generations and spark many conversations before, at, and after your wedding or event. With that belief, I design with my hands and my heart.

Our Story

I am the first of five children for my parents, and my mom would tell me how I tended my own garden in elementary and high school and would walk to the neighbors to admire, water, and tend to their potted plants. I am one of those people who will prune and water your plants or even pull off the road to admire and pick a beautiful bloom. In Floral Design Academy, my instructor told me that my "area of focus" would be weddings after our first module on bridals. I told her “No way” and added, “that’s too much work. I’m going corporate!” Teachers know best because, after my first huge event in Jamaica in 2011, weddings and formal events became my niche.

I am a trained and certified Florist and Events Planner. I decided to focus on florals because of the joy I feel when designing them, their importance to events, their lingering in the pictures and memories, and the joy they bring to my clients.

I started Decor Fancy Ja formally in 2011, designing flowers from my home studio and I still do today. For me, it is a combination of three things - passion, therapeutic relaxation, and my job. The priceless smiles of my clients, the tears of joy on a bride’s wedding day, the warm hugs, the expressions of gratitude verbally and in the mail, the screams of “I love it” from the brides, their parents, graduates, and prom-goers, and the joy I get from this job, passion, and commitment keep me designing flowers.

...When it all started

I work with Events Planners and other vendors in the industry locally and internationally to plan, coordinate, and design florals for weddings, events, and those special occasions. I have years of experience planning and designing flowers for weddings locally, and for destination and elopement weddings in the Caribbean and the mountains. When you choose to work with us, we build relationships; and work with your other vendors to make your event beautifully memorable. When you choose us, not only do you get a florist and a designer but a team that can provide connections with people in the industry and insight into the whole planning experience.
